The only evidence-backed countermeasure is sleep — even a brief 20-minute nap in a safe rest area can meaningfully reduce impairment. Pairing a short nap with caffeine, taken just before resting, is a strategy some researchers suggest for short-term alertness recovery.
Warning Signs and What to Do About Them
Knowing the warning signs early gives you the chance to act before a close call or crash. Watch for:
